TORNADO RECOVERY FUND

A massive storm system devastated much of the American South on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 and
Alabama was particularly affected by tornadoes, especially in the Tuscaloosa area.  Under the
leadership of Richard Scott, Director of MTNA Southern Division and Cynthia Jones, President of the
Alabama Music Teachers Association, a fund-raising effort has been launched. The point of this relief
effort is not only to help teachers affected by the storm to re-launch their studio activities, but also to
aid students with financial assistance to continue their lessons after the losses they and
their families have suffered.

Kentucky Music Teachers Association has pledged $500 in the Fiscal Year 2011 budget to be sent to
the Alabama Music Teachers Association to aid in this effort.  Donations toward this relief effort will
also be accepted at Bernardo Scarambone¹s Conference Artist Recital at State Conference on Monday,
October 17 at Eastern Kentucky University.

Any KMTA members who would like to send a personal donation are highly encouraged to do so.
Personal checks may be sent to the state treasurer.

In the "For" line, write "Tornado Recovery Fund". All contributions are tax deductible.
More information about this relief effort, including a Music Replacement project is available on the
Alabama Music Teachers Association Website:

KMTA-WHAT’S HAPPENING AROUND THE STATE?

Kentucky Music Teachers across the Bluegrass State have many things happening that would be great for the rest of us
to know about.  Teachers and their students are involved with recitals, conferences, competitions and receive many
awards and recognitions. Perhaps you have a new teaching strategy or other ideas you would like to share.  The “What’s
Happening Around the State” page is the place for your local association to submit this information.  Please use
this
form to facilitate your submissions and send to the KMTA 2nd Vice-president who will then make that information
available for the website and the newsletter.

You may email your information to: Nina Belle Durr, KMTA 2nd Vice-President at the following address:
ninabdurr@bellsouth.net.  Please put in the subject line “KMTA-What’s Happening Around the State”.
